You don’t realize or appreciate just how handy floating screenshots can be until you try the app. I went from skeptical to evangelical in a day of using ScreenFloat. And I can’t remember the last time a new app got me excited as I used it more. That’s not to say ScreenFloat is perfect, mind you.
QuickLook is available for all files you add to Yoink, as icon previews for quick identification and as full previews for a detailed look. A keyboard shortcut lets you hide Yoink if you currently don’t need it, and show it again when you do.
The open source library FFmpeg also includes a color quantizer. FFmpeg produces way better results than CGImageDestination. The colors are more vibrant and the transparency color is set correctly.

SnappyApp does the same thing as ScreenFloat, but with a few differences that you may or may not prefer. For one, SnappyApp automatically saves all your quick floating screenshots. Its browser, which is accessed via Snaps From the Past in the application’s menu bar icon, sorts your saved clips chronologically or by the application the shot was taken in.
Captured images can be dropped into any Mac app that handles standard graphic files, and you can organize, categorize, name and tag each one.
Given those constraints, GIFs are a great way to communicate simple concepts or interactions.

ScreenFloat just makes the obvious saving method a little easier. Everything you capture gets saved in the Shot Browser so you’re not likely to lose some valuable piece of information captured in graphic form.
